Majeje High wins SASFA U/16 Cup
Majeje High school from Ba-Phalaborwa emerged as provincial champions of South African Schools Football Association (SASFA) Under 16 Cup at the weekend.
This after humiliating a star studded Phakgameng High school 5-0 in the provincial finals at the new Jane Furse Legacy Stadium in the Sekhukhune District on Saturday.
The School will now represent the province at the national Finals, scheduled for December at the venue still to be decided.
“South Africa indeed has talent, there are many rough diamonds all over the country, what we need is a serious talent identification mechanism that will draft into the football systems all these stars so that they are properly channelled to shine and play a proper role in making South Africa a power house of youth football in the continent thus the vision 2024 espoused by SAFA will be a reality” said Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko.
The teams were divided into two streams and played on a round robin basis as SASFA promotes maximum exposure to the teams where they are encouraged to play more regular and it is deemed unfair for a school to travel more than 300 km just to play one match and return home. With the round robin system each school has more chance to improve their standing then advance to the next level.
The results were as follows; Stream A: Centauri High 2, Majeje High 2; Centauri High 3, Ngwana Kwena High 0; Ngwana Kwena High 0, Majeje 6.
Stream B: Phakgameng High 4, Mohlaohle 2; Mohlalaohle High 0, Phakgameng 2.
Final: Majeje 5 , Phakgameng 0.
