These days, amazing Educational tools are just a Google search away. Resource sites from colleagues also fill our inbox.
Yet attending an incredible symposium in the flesh is more than just a pretty slideshow—it stirs something within. Perhaps it’s a combination of the senses: the slow progression of a discussion on film study by Leon van Nierop, the sound of professionals excited about what they do, or the passion with which a lecturer presents poetry.
These elements are part of the lasting effects of an experience that can’t be captured by simply logging in on or surfing the web.
Of course, on occasion a quintessential learning experience can be ruined—perhaps by poor presentation or more commonly and unfortunately the fact that the facilitators simply don’t know what they are talking about.
That’s why it was such a delight to discover SAOU’s Literature symposium to be inspired, creative and most
importantly filled with relevant, important and useful information. With speakers such as Jaco Jacobs, Mariè Gräbe and Leon van Nierop himself.
They expressed the hope that agencies involved in this endeavour, continue to pool their resources and present amazing material for educators who are passionate about education.
