Students’ grievances heard at Maake Campus

Actions speak louder than words and in this case, learners from Maake Campus of Letaba FET College thought that if they strike they will be heard.

The learners threatened to go on strike if their demands were not met. This was after some students were owed bursary money from last year, while others have not yet received their monies for the current financial year.

South African Youth Council Mopani (SAYC), Treasurer Nathi Sedibe who was the mediator between the campus management and students said on Thursday that the matter was resolved and everything was back to normal. “It was just some technical errors between the bank and the institution that resulted in delayed payments for bursaries. It has been resolved and everything is back to normal, the students are now writing their trial exams,’ said Sedibe.

He said one of the major challenges was that some students did not have bank cards. “We therefore called a meeting with management and SRC and the problem was solved,” he said.
