TZANEEN – Tzaneen Mediclinic’s major expansion project remains on schedule for completion in April 2027, with the first phase set to significantly increase the hospital’s capacity and introduce additional healthcare services to the community.

Hospital manager Zane Fanie said the deadline depends on the project progressing without major disruptions.

“Everything is still on schedule as planned, and if everything goes well with no disturbances, the completion date will be April 2027,” said Fanie.

More beds and theatres in Phase 1

Phase 1 of the project will add 60 beds and two new theatres, while several existing services and facilities will be expanded.

New entrance, pharmacy and coffee shop

The ground floor of the new development, facing the town, will become the hospital’s new entrance and will feature a larger reception area, a pharmacy and a coffee shop.

An expanded intensive care unit (ICU) will be located on the floor above, providing 20 beds, together with a new day ward.

28 new consulting rooms planned

The next floor will accommodate specialist consulting rooms and management offices.

A total of 28 consulting rooms will be available, creating an opportunity for the hospital to increase the number of specialists and services available to the community.

“It will offer us an opportunity to increase the different specialists and services to the community,” Fanie said.

Next stage: Upgrading the existing hospital

Once Phase 1 has been completed and all necessary approvals have been obtained from the municipality, the new facilities will be occupied.

The project will then move into its next stage, which will involve the upgrade and refurbishment of the existing hospital.

“Due to the ongoing construction and refurbishment, there will be a disturbance to the town, but this is all for efficiency and to improve the service to our clients and the community,” he said.
