IEC school democracy week launched

Independent electoral commission (IEC) in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality launched its school democracy week at Modipe High School on Monday.

INDEPENDENT electoral commission (IEC) in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality launched its school democracy week at Modipe High School on Monday.

“We have growing children and they need to know what’s happening in our offices in order to help grow our country.

The IEC’s mission is to be a pre-eminent leader in the electoral democracy.

Our values include integrity which means we do everything that we do honestly and ensure that our elections are fair and square.

Public participation is of great value in this regard as well” said Kulani Ramajela,

IEC Mopani Regional Supervisor.

The day was a huge success where IEC gave a presentation to the learners.

The presentation covered a lot of things including the importance of voting, requirements for registrations and voting. There was a question session where learners were asked questions and those who answered correctly were given T-shirts. IEC will go back to Modipe High School on Wednesday to register all learners who meet the necessary requirements to become active in the coming elections.

Other schools will be visited by IEC officials from October 13 to 19 as part of the school democracy week.

Members of the public and learners who are eligible to vote in elections should bring their identity documents.
