The Greater Tzaneen Municipality officially launched Phase Two of an electrification project at Mohlaba-Cross village last Wednesday.
The project will see 500 households being connected with electricity in the area. Speaking during the handing over of the project to the contractors and consulting engineers, Councillor Edney Ntimbane said the project cost R4,8 million and is expected to be completed in six months. Ntimbane said after the completion, the community of Mohlaba-Cross will have access to electricity which will make life a little easier for them. “They will be able to make use of electrical appliances to improve the quality of their lives,” said Ntimbane.
He said despite limited financial resources, the municipality makes it a priority to connect electricity to as many households as possible. He urged the community to ensure that work proceeds well, guarding against vandalism and theft of the material. One of the residents, Patience Malatji said that children and domestic animals will be safe now that electricity has been connected legally. “A lot of animals died as a result of illegal connection of electricity in the area,” she said. Phase one of the project which was completed in July 2013 benefited 500 families in ward 18 and 32.
