Mokgoloboto residents wreak havoc

Protesting residents of Mokgoloboto village are wreaking havoc on the R36 road from Nkowankowa to Tzaneen blockading it with burning tyres, stones and trees branches.

On Tuesday afternoon, disgruntled residents took to the streets over what they say is the lack of basic services in their village.

By late yesterday, motorists had to use the Tarentaal road to Tzaneen and other areas after the road was blocked.

Some of the affected people who work in town said they had to walk long distances to their home because of the protest.

On Wednesday morning the protesters blocked the Letaba Hospital road to prevent motorists from Nkowankowa Township and Lydenburg road from getting to town. By 9:00 some workers have not arrived at their work place.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said police were clearing the road while waiting for reinforcement from other areas of the province.

“Police will maintain strong presence until the situation is normalised,” said Ngoepe.
