R450m ZCC interchange project at Boyne handed over to contractor

A new flyover interchange planned for the R71 at Boyne aims to ease traffic and improve safety when thousands of worshippers travel to the St Engenas ZCC headquarters.

LIMPOPO – Transport Minister Barbara Creecy and Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba officially handed over the contractor for the R450m St Engenas Zion Christian Church (ZCC) interchange at Boyne on the R71 on Friday, October 23.

Project to improve traffic and safety

The project aims to improve traffic flow and road safety, particularly during major church gatherings when thousands of worshippers travel to the St Engenas ZCC headquarters.

Raubex Construction was formally introduced to the church’s leader, Bishop Dr Engenas Lekganyane. The company was represented by Geoffrey Molala and Anton van der Walt, with Riaan Oerlemans appointed as project manager.

Creecy said construction, which includes flyover bridges, is expected to begin in November, subject to outstanding processes being finalised. The project is expected to take approximately 18 months.

Jobs and local business opportunities

Of the R450m contract value, the Limpopo government will contribute R125m through Roads Agency Limpopo.

Creecy said R130m had been allocated for the procurement of goods and services, creating opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs. Residents from surrounding communities will also be recruited and trained during construction.

Ramathuba said the handover demonstrated the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and honouring its undertaking to the church and motorists.

“We will monitor the contractor to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated time,” she said.

Bishop Lekganyane welcomed the development, expressing his appreciation that construction of the interchange would soon begin.
