Cash-in-transit robbers were trapped inside Bedford Centre in Bedfordview in Johannesburg. This was the first update on the Bedfordview and Edenvale News website.

The SAPS and Metro Police have placed the area in lock-down.

The Bedfordview journalist, Duenna Mambana, was on the scene and reported that several shots were fired.

Two women were injured in the gunfire. Reports indicate both women are still inside the centre.

“It appears more people may have been injured. The area is in lock-down. There are still robbers inside. I can also see people trying to get out of the centre,” said Duenna.

“As far as we know, guards from SBV were coming down the escalator when the robbers attacked. Witnesses reported hearing automatic gunfire. One suspect has been arrested. The others are still inside,” said Duenna.

“It seems it could have been a well-organised attack,” said Duenna.
