Minor burnt to death

A five year-old girl was burnt to death in a shack at Ga-Kgapane on Saturday.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Lebogang Ramahlo was sleeping inside her parental shack which caught fire from a stove allegedly when the mother was not around.

“The police and fire fighters were immediately summoned to the scene by community members and tried to rescue the burning child with no success” said Ngoepe.

Ngoepe further added that this is the second incident within a week in the same area after a nine year old girl, Ria Letsoalo, was found killed and her body buried in a shallow grave at Medinyeng village which is about six kilometers from where Ramahlo was burnt.

“The South African Police Service would like to reiterate a serious call to all members of the community, especially mothers, to put more efforts on child safety” concluded Ngoepe.

The cause of the fire is still not known but an inquest case has been opened and it is still under investigations to find the cause of the fire.
