Police hand over house to orphans

The South African Police Services Women's Network in Partnership with other stakeholders have handed over a house to the orphaned children of Moyaba family in Bodupe village outside Tzaneen on December 10.

The handing over of the house forms part of the SAPS’s closing ceremony of the 16 Days of Activism On No Violence Against Women and Children.

The four roomed house was handed over by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner Policing Major General Nonhlanhla Zulu together with the Speaker of Mopani District Municipality Councillor Wireless Sedibeng, the Acting Mayor of Greater Letaba Local Municipality Councillor Mothipa Manyama, Chief Director Ngoako Mangena representing the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Deputy Director Johannes Maja representing the Department of Correctional Services, Mohale Traditional Authority in Bolobedu and other Stakeholders.

“These children were identified by Bolobedu SAPS Communications officer constable Millicent Mohale when she was attending a funeral in that area in November”, stated Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.

Constable Mohale was highly touched for observing these children sleeping in such dilapidated houses and she then reported the matter to the Station Commander and Management and subsequently she started facilitating the construction of this house with the Greater Letaba Local Municipality and the Local Bussiness Community.

“Following my visitation to the home I knew I had to do something about their situation, I approached the Greater Letaba Municipalty (GLM) and asked if they cannot assist them in getting an RDP house only to find out that someone has already claimed their home and a home was built at Mokgoba village just outside Modjadjiskloof”, said Constable Millicent Mohale.

Constable Mohale then approached businesses and asked for donations to help erect a house for this family.

The older child Reneilwe Moyaba together with her two siblings, welcomed this donation with both hands because it came as a relief to them and they will from now start to have peace of mind as their dignity is now restored.

General Zulu appreciated Constable Mohale on this noble initiative as it will strengthen Partnership and Community Policing in this part of the Province.
