The Tickeyline to Makhubidung road officially open

The mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Maripe Mangena has officially opened the newly tarred Tickeyline to Makhubidung Road last Wednesday

The 2.8km road links communities to CN Phathudi Hospital, Shiluvane Library, Maake Plaza as well as various schools and churches. The road is said to have cost the municipality a whooping R16 million funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG). Forty two labour workers mostly locals were employed for the duration of the project. During his address in an event attended by locals and stakeholders, Mangena said he is happy that the road has been officially opened.

He added that the road will not only benefit business people but it will benefit ordinary community members as well. Mangena also urged community members to look after the new infrastructure and not destroy it. “Avoid destroying the infrastructure and understand that there are procedures to follow before services are delivered,” he said.

He added that if they damaged the road instead of government bringing more development they will have to fix the damages which he said will slow development in the area.

A representative from Greater Tzaneen Taxi Association expressed how excited for the road. “We would like to thank the municipality for the road, it will save our taxis as well as our petrol. We use the road 85% more than any other road user and for that we are thankful for the road,” said the representative.

He also said that anyone who strikes and burn tyres on the road become their enemy.

The road was built by Makasana Construction supervised by Southern Ambition Consulting Engineers (SACE).
