Mopani Mayor condemn vulgar language in music
"Our musicians must stop using vulgar language, but use music to educate and unite our nation."
The Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Nkakareng Rakgoale, has condemned vulgar language used by artists.
Rakgoale was speaking during the 14th Munghana Lonene Fm Xitsonga music awards held in Giyani Stadium on Saturday.
“Our musicians must stop using vulgar language, but use music to educate and unite our nation. Music is one of the good social cohesion that brings people of Mopani together despite tribe or language differences. We don’t want something that will divide us especially when the awards are uniting us,” she said.
“South African traditional music is one way of ensuring that we don’t lose our culture and tradition and making sure that we tell our own history and we are proud of people who are not ashamed of their culture and tradition,” she added.
She also applauded the winners of the awards.
“We would like to congratulate all the winners of the awards and wish better luck for those who didn’t win. After all, music is a winner at the end of the day,” said Rakgoale.
She also condemned the issue of piracy and urged people to buy originals so that they support local artists .
“We must stop the issue of piracy and buy original music and support local artists so that they can be able to buy food for their families,” said Rakgoale.
Munghana Lonene Fm station Manager, Lawrence Ubisi, applauded the artists and encouraged them to continue making music to make sure that we celebrate culture.
“With the awards we would like to motivate our artists to keep on promoting Xitsonga music,” he said.
Winners for the day are Eckson Maluleke who won the Dr Thomas Chauke lifetime achiever award and Best xitsonga artist, Florah N’wa Chauke, Best Xitsonga Female artist, Themba Nyathi, Best Xitsonga Gospel, Daniel Brothers, Best Xitsonga newcomers, Brian Bomba and Madya Kubomba, Best Xitsonga Collaboration.
Arthur Mafokate, Chommie, DJ Ganyani, Mr Bow, Benny Mayengani and Themba Nyathi performances kept the crowd asking for more.
