VIDEO: David ‘spins’ up a storm in Tzaneen and ‘revs’ up tempers…

"Why are they calling me untouchable? If I have committed any crime, the police know who and where I am!"

These are the words of David Mhangwana, Tzaneen’s very own ‘fast and furious’, in an personal interview with Letaba Herald on Wednesday morning.

A video of David driving recklessly around the streets of Tzaneen went viral recently on YouTube, and after Letaba Herald published an article about an accident he allegedly caused near Merensky, complaints about his driving haven’t stopped pouring in.

David denies all the allegations made against him and was adamant on setting the record straight.

Speaking as fast as he drives, almost in fifth gear, Mhangwana insists that he was not the cause of the accident and that it was instead another driver, who was infatuated with the sound David’s car made, and is directly responsible for the collision.

Letaba Herald caught up with David Mhangwana at Mercurious Tzaneen, where another luxurious set of his wheels was getting serviced for a ‘minor’ problem.

Despite a video vividly depicting his reckless actions going viral on the internet, Mhangwana reiterated that he wasn’t speeding.

“No one but I, can tell how much I was speeding. I am the only one who could read what was on my speedometer,” he boasted.

“I am simply a victim of racism and tribalism. “Ever since I joined a campaign to bring awareness around racism, tribalism and crime in our town, I have been victimised,” emphasised David.

“Two men came out of a branded K9 police car and started provoking me at the scene of the accident. They demanded to search my car without a warrant and that’s when I decided to ‘flee’ from the scene.”

David claims that the police vehicle followed him to a tyre dealer on Skirving street and again provoked him.

According to Daivid, that’s why he sped up as seen in the video. (You can find the videos on YouTube.)

Mhangwana is a businessman and owns a lodge in Nkowankowa just outside Tzaneen.

“Even my businesses have stopped performing well.”

Letaba Herald also took the opportunity to speak to General Manager of Mercurius Tzaneen, Riadhwaan Jeewa, who confirmed that David’s car was in mint condition.

“After the incident, we checked his vehicle and from our side, his car noise levels were found to be within the prescribed legal standards.” We also didn’t find advancements of any sort in his vehicle,” said Jeewa.

Jeewa however, chastised Mhangwana by pointing out that though the vehicle in question is a high performance vehicle, one needs to use it with caution and abide by road rules, especially within the boundaries of a town and residential areas.

Herald paid a visit to the tyre dealer at the scene where one the videos which went viral was recorded.

David claims the video was recorded on the same day the car accident he is being accused of causing happened.

One of the staff members at the tyre dealer, who says he was present on that specific day, revealed to us that the tyres David purchased were pre-ordered.

When asked about David spinning his car, he said he could not comment on anything that happened outside their premises, adding that we can have a look at a video doing the rounds on social media.
