Dr Phophi Ramathuba, paid a surprise visit at the Kgapane hospital last Wednesday as part of the #officeMustFall campaign in an effort to address it’s various challenges and vowed to take actions after receiving a slew of complaints about the facilities.

This comes after receiving multiple complaints about problems experienced by patients, such as poor staff attitude towards patients and nurses who do not respect time.

The MEC’s visit to the hospital uncovered anomalies. During the visit, the MEC witnessed first-hand the long queues, and apart from that, she expressed her dissatisfaction with the poor state of hygiene in maternity wards amongst other shortfalls in service delivery.

In between engagements with the staff, the MEC encouraged the hospital’s staff to tell her about various challenges affecting the hospital’s ability to effectively treat and care for patients.

“The facility is currently under staffed and lacks capacity to house the large influx of patients seeking care,” said one of the nurses.

In response to the situation at the hospital, the MEC stated intentions to absorb and deploy new nursing graduates to the facility and gave orders to move some patients to the Duiwelskloof health centre. The hospital will be reviewing patients with referral letter from the health centre to reduce the escalating number of patients in the hospital.

The MEC called for the hospital staff to take charge of the health facilities entrusted to them and ensure patients are treated humanely and with dignity. came here to be She further vowed to mobilize resources to assist the hospital in providing better care for patients.

“The hospital requires management intervention. In the mean time, the hospital will be provide with interim leadership to ensure better services in the hospital , of course the issue of infrastructure is our long term goal,” noted the MEC.
