Local boy (5) in need of wheelchair

"If you hide them you don't know that there are good Samaritans out there who can possibly help your child."

The Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality (MDM), Nkakareng Rakgoale, has called for parents living with disabilities not to hide their children because she believes that they are denying them opportunities to a better future.

She was speaking during her visit with Hlulani Mkhabele (5), a boy who was born with a disabled leg and hand at Giyani Section F, on Tuesday, June 12.

“If you hide them you don’t know that there are good Samaritans out there who can possibly help your child,”she said.

“After seeing the story on Facebook posted by Pfuxi Chauke, I was really touched that is the reason I immediately pledged to visit the family and see how we can help the child,” said Rakgoale.

She donated food to the family, appointed a task team that is made out of: Occupational Therapist, Dr Themba Shivambu; a Ward Councilor; Portfolio Head of Social Services from MDM and Pfuxi Chauke, the girl who posted photos of the boy on social media asking the community to buy the child a wheelchair. She has also spoken with social workers to assist him with food and disability grant .

Chauke, said that she was touched by the condition that the boy was living in.

“I was so touched because I used to see him crawling when he was playing with other kids, it is winter now and he can’t be crawling like this on the cold ground, so I decided to post his photos on Facebook and the Executive Mayor came to the rescue,” she said. The five year old is staying with both his unemployed parents and they are Mozambican nationals.
