TZANEEN: The Men’s Club that keeps giving back

“The giving back to these children was the least we could do...”

“It takes a village to raise a child”, the Premier Men’s Investment Club from Lephepane village, outside of Tzaneen gave it a true meaning on Youth Day as they took it upon themselves to fix a local crèche in their community.

“The giving back to these children was the least we could do,” said Mokgatle Selane from the club.

These men who live in and around Lephepane village took the initiative to repair one of the buildings at Epelegeng crèche in Lephepane as the building had loose electrical cables hanging on the walls and a leaking and a torn up ceiling.

The building accommodates infants from (0-18) months.

“Today we have dedicated our time to give back to the crèche as well as the young children as our sign of appreciation for allowing us to use the crèche as our space to hold our monthly meetings,” said Selane.

“One of the reasons we took this great task upon ourselves was mainly for the safety of the young children, as the electrical cables were not installed properly and supplied too much electricity which would in danger the children at a later stage,” said Serutuba Lemao.

Furthermore he also added, “These young children are our future generation and it is our responsibility as adults to ensure that they safe at all times.  The secretary had an idea that they could find out where they bought the paint so that we can get at least two buckets of paint and paint this building so that all the building look the same,” said Maboke Letsaolo, another club member.

The principal of Epelegeng, Selina Moagi, was greatly moved by what was happening at her crèche and very thankful for the great work that was done.

“Even after their meetings every Saturday, they clean up. We do not find any papers laying around, we just know from the car wheels that there was a meeting here. they do for me at the crèche, I love them and I am thankful. They came to me one day and told me about the electric cables that were not installed properly. This great work that these men are doing shouldn’t be a once off thing, they should continue doing the amazing things they do for the crèche,” said Moagi.

The Premier Men’s Investment Club’s purpose is to build and help their community as they have done for Epelegeng crèche. The money they invest in their club is mainly to help their families such as; children’s registration fees and to also help their club members during funerals. The Premier Men’s Investment Club has 19 members in total. These men support each other at weddings, unveiling and funerals. Their purpose is to educate their community and to give back to the community in any way they can.
