GIYANI: Career expo succesful

Different learners from the Giyani area flocked to the Mopani Career Expo which was held at the Swiss Mission Presbyterian Church Hall recently.

The Expo was hosted by Muvumbi Marketing and Communications, which is another division of Muvumbi Holdings, founded by Jabulani Nkuna and Owen Tshimedzi, the career expo coordinator.

They partnered with a number of organisations in order to make the Expo a successful community event: Man’ombe Education Circuit, led by Circuit Manager, Edwin Chavalala; Pick ‘n’ Pay Giyani; Masingita Group of Companies and Giyani Community Radio Station (GCR FM).

Over 300 learners from five high schools attended the event, namely; Giyani High School, Ritlhabile High School, Risinga High School, High Quality High School and Kheto Xumayo High School.

The Expo was also honoured by different guests including: Former Ward 11 Councillor, Million Rikhotso as the program director, Directors Kingsley and Sylvia Juma for Pick ‘n’ Pay Giyani as key note speakers of the event and Bob Ndala, Pick ‘n’ Pay Giyani Senior Manager.

“The need was mainly to create exposure of those courses that are not generally being exposed such as radio production and presenting, weather forecast presenting.

“As a former radio production student, I saw a deep need to introduce these courses, to teach them how to gain admission to universities and introducing them to the spheres of educational funding, also bursaries and such to the community of Giyani also encouraging them to further their studies and to divert them to the importance of education than resorting themselves to crime and mostly peer pressure,” explained Nkuna.

The event was the source of showing them that there are many courses or opportunities available.

“We are happy with how the event unfolded and attendance went as much as we anticipated.

“All the learners responded positively,” Nkuna added.
