Eight Maruleng schools receive R15 000 each

Some of the schools plan to upgrade their kitchen, repair damaged ceilings and erect safer entry points to the school.

Eight schools in Metz, outside of Hoedspruit were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. The schools each won a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000.

These vouchers were handed out at the opening ceremony of the new Cashbuild Metz store that took place on Thursday, November 8. Some of the schools plan to upgrade their kitchen, repair damaged ceilings and erect safer entry points to the school.

Matsikinyane Primary School, Baloon Mantjana Primary School and Lorraine Banareng Primary School are three of the eight lucky schools that each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000.

Mr Malepe, the principal of Matsikinyane Primary School, was so happy when he received the news that his school was selected: “We have been waiting for years to be able to erect two new gates at the school as currently, the only entrance is on a very busy main road and we fear for the safety of the children every day. Now we will put up two gates on either side of the school to allow learners safe and easy access to the school.” He went on to thank Cashbuild for helping them look out for their children.

The principal from Baloon Mantjana Primary School, Mr Madika is going to be tackling their school kitchen as well as a Grade 2 class ceiling: “We provide a meal for almost 700 learners every day so it is very important for us to have a clean and hygienic space, therefore we will be putting in tiles in the kitchen area to make cleaning it so much easier. One of our Grade 2 class ceilings was damaged and we just have not had the funds to fix it and now we can, all thanks to Cashbuild.”

Lorraine Banareng Primary School’s principal, Ms Mametja would like to use the voucher to repair the borehole that they have on the school grounds: “We have a shortage of water and now, with our borehole not working properly, this is a big problem for the school so we look forward to getting it up and running again. Cashbuild, from all of us here at Lorraine Banareng Primary School, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

When the building material vouchers totalling R120 000 were handed out to the eight winning schools, the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.

The schools that will benefited from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations were: Malebalong Primary School, Matsikinyane Primary School, Baloon Mantjana Primary School, MatshanganePrimary School, Lorraine Banareng Primary School, Metz Mamahlola Primary School, Lekane Primary School and Rankagele Primary School.
