Human fetus a shock discovery in KNP manhole

Police in Phalaborwa are investigating a case of concealment of birth following the shocking discovery of a fetus.

“The fetus was discovered at Phalaborwa gate hostel in the Kruger National Park (KNP) on Wednesday 21 August at about 17:00 by employees of the park who were busy performing their duties when they spotted a sewage manhole which was not properly closed,” Sgt Elvis Mongwe said.

On closer inspection they discover in shock a fetus lying inside the drain (manhole) and immediately informed the management of the KNP who contacted the police.

A woman allegedly performed an illegal abortion and dump the fetus, the police said.

According to Jaco Gericke from CPF medical the fetus was aborted the day before it was discovered as it shows no sign of decomposition.

“The body was removed from the drain and was certified dead at the scene. It was taken away by forensic pathologist to Maphutha Hospital,” said Mongwe.

The Station Commander of Phalaborwa SAPS Colonel Patricia Rakhadani is highly condemning this irrational act and have  tasked the detectives unit to investigate the case

“We appeal to the community to assist with information which can lead to the arrest of the suspect in this matter by contacting SAPS Phalaborwa at 015-781-9277 079-891-2423 or contact the nearest station.
