The police in Tzaneen are advising community members walking from the industrial area to the CBD to be vigilant and to walk in groups to avoid robberries.

There has been a number of robberies recently that were committed in that area which were reported at the Tzaneen Police Station.

Sergeant Maurice Nkwashu, Tzaneen Police Station spokesman, told Letaba Herald that these acts are a cause for a concern as it leaves pedestrians exposed to danger.

“It is alleged that there is a group of about five suspects who rob people who visit sex workers by the railway tracks in the area and in Impala street. These perpetrators demand money and cellphones from the sex workers clients at gun point and knife point,” Nkwashu said.

“The culprits sometimes force the victims to transfer money electronically to them if they don’t have cash with them,” he stated.

Nkhwashu also calls for the residents of George’s Valley to be extra careful by locking doors and closing windows at night.

“During the end of the year many home robberies take place in the area. The house robbery trend in this area is starting to escalate hence we are warning the community to be vigilant,” he concluded.
