Food parcels will be provided to vulnerable households in Limpopo during the lockdown.
Limpopo’s department of social development will undertake a screening process to help locate vulnerable households in need of food parcels.
The department will work with social workers alongside SASSA to ensure the parcels reach the people who need it the most.
Spokesperson of the department, Witness Tiva, explained that social workers conduct assessments on who will be able to qualify. They will then be visited by SASSA officials who will distribute the food parcels to the qualifying households.
“Being a beneficiary of SASSA does not mean you automatically qualify because circumstances are checked and the distribution of food parcels will be prioritised to those that need them the most,” he said.
Communication and marketing manager of SASSA, Zwannda Kutama, said they will not only be looking for households within their system because circumstances of people can change especially during this disaster period.
“You may find that there are more than seven in one household but there is no one that is able to provide for household,” he added.
There are those who are still on the waiting list to have their grants approved including temporary disability grants, who will also qualify to receive food parcels.
Vulnerable households are advised to call their nearest social development worker who will begin the screening process.
