Tzaneen residents left without water

Tzaneen residents have been left frustrated after experiencing a series of water shortages in the past few weeks.

According to the Greater Tzaneen Municipality spokesman, Neville Ndlala, the low dam level of the Ebenezer Dam is the main cause.

The dam is at 16.5% from 66% it was last year at this time.

“They have reduced the volume of water flowing from Ebenezer into the Letaba River from 1,6 m3/s to 0,6 m3/s (62,5%).

“This is the main reason why we don’t have sufficient supply at the George’s Valley plant,” he explained.

Ndlala added that in the past two weeks they have cleared bushes and discovered leakages along the 15km pipeline.

Even after leakages are repaired, it will bring little improvement because of the low volume.

“This simply means less water to the plant and in turn less water into the reticulation system.”

The municipality has released a planned maintenance schedule for George’s Valley raw water line.

The schedule is 29 June, 27 June, 11 July, 27 July and 11 August.

The following areas will have their water turned off during the maintenance program, Aqua Park, Flora Park, Premier Park, Golden Acres and New Industrial Area.
