Manhunt on for Haenertsburg fugitive

Police in Haenertsburg have launched a manhunt for a 21-year-old suspect, Ashley Gundani, who reportedly escaped from police custody.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, Gundani escaped on Sunday, 30 August.

“It is alleged that at about 17:40, police were conducting a routine service at the station’s holding cells and in the process, this awaiting trial prisoner, escaped,” said Ngoepe.

He said the escapee was arrested for burglary, rape, kidnapping and labelled him a dangerous criminal.

“Following this incident, the special Task Team was activated and members have been working tirelessly around the clock tracing the suspect with no success. The circumstances around this incident are a subject of the ongoing police investigations,” said Ngoepe.
