Tuffy race gives back

The Spar Tzaneen Tuffy 4in1 road race is one of the toughest races in Limpopo and definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Organiser Paul Zaayman said it is also a race by the community for the community.

The race took place on 7 March.

“After the race we were able to support several community-based projects Being able to support our charity partners is one of the main goals of this race.

We were able to succeed in this goal and support eleven charity organisations with the help they so desperately needed this year,” he said.

As part of giving back to the community, each of the eleven community-based organisations were handed a cheque of over R8 250 worth of Spar vouchers.

“All of these charities play a focal role in supporting the community around them, and we are proud to play our part in this,” he said.

The first beneficiary that received a cheque was Ani Vileli, which was formed to assist vulnerable women, especially those trapped in prostitution.

They help these women through skills training and support, enabling them to become financially independent.

Tzaneen Care Group also benefitted, they consist of a group of volunteers who care and attend to the needs of predominantly cancer patients.

Children of Dawn is a NGO which takes care of 110 vulnerable and orphaned children in Lenyenye. God’s Haven, a care home that predominantly looks after people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, also received vouchers.

A non-profit nursing home, Goue Jare, which cares for the elderly in Modjadjiskloof, also benefitted.

Khopo Drop-in Centre is a community centre that takes care of orphans, vulnerable children and those living with HIV.

There are 113 children in their care and it was established in 2010. Mamphela Ramphele crèche based in Lenyenye was founded in 1993.

Their goal is to care, teach and protect children up to six-years-old through established programmes.

Hlayisanani Home of Love based in Nkowankowa is a home for abused children and they are currently accommodating about ten children.

Another organisation is Monye-Le-Shako Old Age Exercise.

They are an NPO which operate in Dan and Mokgoloboto villages.

They encourage the elderly to exercise and support them with meals.

SAVF Tzaneen is also an NPO which supports individuals and families in their community.

Their goal is to empower their beneficiaries to live a quality and meaningful life.

The Swaranang Disability Project, also an NPO, manages a day-care facility for 75 disabled individuals.

Part of their programme is to develop farming skills. Zaayman concluded by saying they were looking forward to next year’s race.
