Congratulations to the class of 2020

Despite the pandemic the Tzaneen Circuit and Nkowankowa Circuit “Class of 2020” performed exceptionally well given the circumstances.

Felix Nomvela, Tzaneen Circuit Manager of the Department of Education says he is proud to be leading a circuit of hardworking learners and teachers.

He applauded Merensky High School for achieving a 100% pass rate, an improvement of 2,3% from 2019’s 97,7%.

“I say bravo to the school for such a great achievement and also being named the Best Agriculture Focused School in the province.

Merensky achieved a total of 231 subject distinctions and 161 bachelor passes.

Dominique Blandin de Chalain and Suandrie Corbett of Merensky High School celebrate their results at the school on Tuesday.

Their top achiever is Michaela Stanley with eight distinctions.

“I also would like to congratulate the Lowveld Academy Tzaneen for improving from 90,4% to 94% and Ben Vorster High School for their 92,4% pass rate.

I’m pleased with the amount of effort and dedication the leadership of the schools has put in,” he explained.

Ben Vorster boasts 207 distinctions and their top achiever is Doné Aucamp with nine distinctions.

Nomvela said that one of the rural schools which impressed him the most was Stanley Mopai High School in Motupa village which managed to attain a 50% pass rate despite almost a whole year of no attendance due to a dispute at the school.

The Mopani West District, under which Tzaneen and Nkowankowa Circuits fall, was named the Most Improved District in the province.

The district has continuously improved its performance in three consecutive years from 2018 to 2020. It has achieved 64,4% in 2018, 68% in 2019 and 68,4% in 2020.

One of Nkowankowa’s best performing independent schools, St George maintained its exceptional performance for attaining another 100% pass rate for the eleventh consecutive year.

Headmaster, Joya Varughese, told the Herald that she feels motivated to perform even better in the year ahead.

The school has for many years been named the Best Independent School in the Mopani District.

Meridian College has also attained a 100% pass rate. Stanford Lake College retained its 100% pass rate since its inception and boasts a 87% university exemption.
