
This is according to the crime statistics released by the South African Police Services for the period from October to December.
Burglary cases at non-residential and residential premises also went up by 40,6% and 34,5% respectively during the same period.
Sexual offences in general have gone up by 22,2% while reported rape cases increased by 35,7%.
Robbery with aggravating circumstances has risen by 30,6% while theft of motor vehicles shot up by 40,6% and theft out of motor vehicle went up by 21, 2%.
Drug-related crime showed a drastic increase of 166,7% while driving under the influence of alcohol increased by 31,6%.

Meanwhile, no cases of bank robbery, robbery of cash in transit, truck hijacking, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition were reported in the same period.
Murder cases went down by 40,0%, assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm by 19,7%, common assault 16,7% and common robbery cases decreased by 26,9%.
Other crimes which decreased included carjacking by 50%, arson 66,7%, malicious damage to property by 43,2%, stock theft by 75%, commercial crime by 7,8%, shoplifting 2,9% while the total other serious crimes decreased by 24,3%.
