Water projects earmarked to increase supply in Lenyenye

“We are completing the last phase of laying the steel bulk pipeline from the Water Treatment Works to Lenyenye. We have constructed reservoirs, and we are now constructing a booster pump station.”

The Thabina to Lenyenye regional water scheme project is near completion and earmarked to resolve water supply issues in Lenyenye and surrounding villages.

This is according to Mopani District Municipality mayor Pule Shayi who was giving the state of the district address last week.

Shayi said the project was one of the biggest projects for the district and a consistent supply of water to Lenyenye township would boost efforts around revenue generation.

“We are completing the last phase of laying the steel bulk pipeline from the Water Treatment Works to Lenyenye. We have constructed reservoirs, and we are now constructing a booster pump station.”

He said they would also continue with Phase two of the Ritavi 2 Water Scheme project where they were constructing water reticulation in the Muhlava area which includes Muhlava, Muhlava-Cross, Sasekani, JB, Petanenge and Zanghoma.

“We are now busy with the construction of the bulk pipeline to Zanghoma while also constructing storage facilities. For this project, we have set aside R40 million from the MIG and will budget R50 million during the 2022/23 financial year.”

He said during their term, they had also completed several phases as part of the Jopie to Mawa-Ramotshinyadi project. “For the coming financial year, we do not have the allocation for the Joppie-Mawa Ramotshinyadi project, but we have an amount of R42, 7 million in the 2022/23 financial year.

Working with the Department of Water and Sanitation, we should soon be able to resolve the issue of bulk water supply to these communities.”

He said work was ongoing around the Relela Cluster where there is the Thapane Bulk Water Scheme project and they were currently at a tender stage with regard to the Mariveni Village in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality.

The Department Water and Sanitation through Lepelle Northern Water will also be implementing the Babanana/Nkambako Bulk Water Project with a budget of R95 million and R1 million has been set aside to start with the construction of a fire station in Kgapane.
