Mentorship programme launched

The Enock Mathebula Foundation’s Gift and Chairman’s Mentorship Programme was launched recently at Borwa Lifestyle Centre.

About 74 learners from Nkateko High School and N’wasorini Primary School gathered to launch the 12-month programme. The programme is meant for teenage learners, particularly those from disadvantaged families to be mentored and shaped for a better future. Six mentors were identified in the community and taught on topics with the theme “Lift as you rise”.

The mentorship programme’s goal is to rebuild society through education, to help accelerate the personal and professional development of the mentees or youth by inspiring, empowering, and educating them to achieve their full potential to be leaders, said Enock Mathebula Foundation director, Gift Mathebula. She explained the goals and advised the learners that the choices they make today will determine their future.

“When you think of doing great things, achieving or making a difference, start now. Even if your plan is to further your studies at the university, don’t wait until you are in matric, start preparing for the future now. If you want to be an entrepreneur, start by selling sweets or something that people need, start now in order to enhance your entrepreneurial skills,” she said.

She said that a person rises by lifting others up. The first speaker during the launch, Ellen Mnisi, the financial manager at the Springbok Group advised the audience on how to become a chartered accountant. She said that it is highly effective and beneficial to practice habits that align with one’s goals and dreams.

“Practiced positive habits become your foundation to develop you into a great achiever and mentor. Discipline is key. Surround yourself with like-minded friends. It will motivate and challenge your intellect,” she explained.
