Two bodies found in Ritavi river
Two lifeless bodies were discovered in the Ritavi river next to Siyandhani village outside Giyani on Wednesday, September 28.

According to information, the incident happened when four friends went to the said place for prayer on Tuesday, September 27 in the afternoon, then at that stage two of them decides to swim while swimming one of them drowned and the other friend tried to rescue him but he failed and also drowned.

“The other two friends that were not swimming went to the police station to report the matter after they realised that their friends are not coming out of the water. Search and rescue team members were summoned to the crime scene and they managed to retrieve the two bodies inside the water on Wednesday. They also found the clothes, cellphones, and plastic bags belonging to the deceased outside the water,” said Constable Ridgewell Rikhotso of Giyani Saps.

The deceased were certified dead at the scene after their bodies were retrieved from the water by emergency personnel services. They were identified as Eric Chabalala aged 52 residing at Makosha (B9) village, and Molele Steven Mberekeng aged 41 residing at Makgakgapatse village. All stakeholders were summoned to the scene including senior officers branch Commander Col Mpagi TR who also addressed the community members about the investigation process.
