Residents fed-up over raw sewage
Residents in Kgapane, Mountain View, have been living in the midst of flowing sewage for some time, and say that enough is now enough.
According to Bennedict Baloyi, the manhole from which the sewage spills, has been repaired several times throughout the years, but not successfully in the long run. “We can’t continue living like this, as the sewage is not healthy for people. We all inhale this odour every day.

I run a business from home and the smell puts customers off.” Baloyi also told Herald that they have been reporting the matter to the Kgapane and Modjadjiskloof offices, sometimes receiving
assistance but often only after reporting the same issue multiple times.

“The manhole has been broken again for the past few weeks and when we report it, we are sent from pillar to post. This was until last week, when we were told that the sewage is the responsibility of the Mopani District Municipality.” At the time of going to press, no feedback had been received from the Mopani District Municipality.
After the Herald intervened in the matter, Baloyi stated that he was contacted by the Mopani officials and they are currently working on the sewage.
