Tourists invited for a warm winter break in Limpopo

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) has launched its Winter Campaign at Mopani Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park (KNP) recently.

The aim of the event was to showcase Limpopo as the perfect destination for the winter season and to encourage local and international tourists to visit the region. The delegates were taken on a game drive as well as to the Elephant Museum at Letaba Rest Camp and Masorini Heritage Site towards the Phalaborwa Gate. This was the first campaign the agency has conducted without Covid-19 restrictions. The CEO of LTA, Moses Ngobeni, said that they are confident that this campaign will yield positive results as this is the time of the year when most people plan holiday trips for the winter vacation.

“We are hopeful that Limpopo will during this so-called low season in tourism, be the first choice given its warm temperatures in winter.” LTA board chairperson, Andrew Dipela said that 70% of the KNP lies in Limpopo and 30% is in Mpumalanga. He said although Mpumalanga has more entry gates, they want to encourage visitors to use Limpopo to enter because of the warm winter temperatures and the array of activities. “Culture and heritage are very strong in our province given many of the diverse cultures found in the province.”

He said the LTA intends to develop routes that they will utilise to promote the province. The launch was also attended by the board chairperson of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Park Agency Board, Victor Mashego. He raised concerns about concessionaires in respect of the nature reserves that were transferred to the Mpumalanga government with long-term leases. According to Mashego, the minster of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Barbara Greecy, should provide upcoming African entrepreneurs with game to grow their businesses. Various packages were unveiled for tourists to enjoy this winter
