Tzaneen circuit schools performs well

Tzaneen Circuit showed an improvement in its matric results from 89.9% in 2022 to 90% in 2023.

The circuit is second in the Mopani West Education District, with Mawa Circuit the best circuit after obtaining 93.5%. Tzaneen circuit manager, Felix Nomvela, told the Herald that he is pleased that none of the six schools have underperformed. According to departmental standards, a school or circuit has under-performed if it obtains less than a 70% pass rate.

Merensky Agricultural Academy is in first position with a 99.5% pass, followed by Ben Vorster with 98.8%, third is Lowveld Academy Tzaneen (Helmeg), fourth Stanley Mopai High School in Motupa with 88.07%, fifth Mohlatlego Machaba Secondary School with 77.04%, and sixth Tzaneng Combined School, located on the Westfalia farm with 75%.

“I’m proud of our achievement, considering that the class of 2023 was also affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Although we did not conduct any school camps because of community issues, the learners were still dedicated and able to produce great results. “Mohlatlego Machaba Secondary School had the most learners, out of 230 learners who wrote the exam, 178 managed to pass taking into account that it is a big school,” Nomvela explained.

Nomvela said this year his team will implement various strategies such as profiling learners in all grades to assess learning barriers to give them the necessary support. “We will be giving the Gr 11 learners the same support and attention as the Gr 12s, and we have already started with our Saturday classes. “We will also be monitoring the performance of teachers by having quarterly subject accountability sessions and, overall, continue to support our schools,” he concluded.
