‘The Real Miss K’ takes over airwaves with soothing voice

The community of Giyani and surrounding areas have been listening to the soothing voice of Nkhensani Chauke, affectionately known as The Real Miss K, for a decade now.

Nkhensani is currently the executive producer at the radio station, Giyani Community Radio (GCR). She has been in the position since 2021 and says she loves every minute of it. She also hosts the breakfast show from 06:00 to 09:00 on Saturdays. Her love for radio was inspired by a former teacher in high school, Ronny Hlungwani, who encouraged her to pursue radio.

“I chose maths and science subjects, but he advised me to take subjects related to radio and media based on my presentation skills and confidence. I also was not that good at maths and science.” In 2013, when the upstart station was looking for presenters, she applied, but it took three attempts before she was selected.

“I have been with the station since its inception in 2014 when they finally started, all thanks to my former teacher. I now see that he was steering me in the right direction,” she says. She has hosted shows such as the breakfast show, Bumper to Bumper, which made her a household name, as well as sports programmes.

“Radio allows interacting with communities giving them a platform to have a voice. “I am grateful for the support of Prenomen Chabani, GCR, our station manager, my co-workers, and my listeners who make our work and show a success,” she concludes.
