No plans for Tzaneen’s demolished ‘sex house’

The Agatha Street "sex house," notorious for crime and vagrancy, was demolished on September 17, authorities are now deciding the plot's future.

TZANEEN – It is not yet clear as to what is to become of the plot where the former “sex house” in Agatha Street was situated.

The house, which was occupied by vagrants and allegedly used by sex workers and drug dealers, was demolished after the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure made the call for the demolition on September 17.

Residents living adjacent to the house and business owners in offices in the vicinity said they felt unsafe because of the events at the house.

Last week, Public Works employees from the provincial office visited the plot.

One of the officials indicated to the Herald that it is not yet clear what the space will be used for.

“Public Works, the Greater Tzaneen Municipality and Correctional Services will have to agree as to what the plot will be best used for. The easiest thing would be for our department to move one of our offices here, but the municipality could also use the space for offices, but that is a conversation that still needs to be had,” the official said.

Others indicated that talks are underway for Correctional Services to erect a children’s court.

The information could however also not be verified.
