Limpopo taxi driver wins provincial award

Limpopo Transport Department honours Livhuwani Mamorobela with R10 000 and trophy for outstanding taxi driving service.

LIMPOPO – Livhuwani Mamorobela, a dedicated taxi driver from Tshisaulu, came second in the provincial Male Taxi Driver of the Year category in the Department of Transport’s Driver of the Year competition.

The prestigious prize-giving event was held at Bolivia Lodge, outside Polokwane on October 26.

The competition included six categories. MEC Violet Mathye highlighted the importance of October as Transport Month in celebrating the critical role transportation plays.

She explained that the competition’s main objective is to enhance the driving skills of taxi drivers nationwide, contributing to road safety and reducing accidents. Mamorobela, who operates under the Vuwani Taxi Association, won R10 000 and a trophy for his achievement.

A taxi driver since 2014, he starts his day at 05:00 to secure his place in the queue at the taxi rank.

“My job can be very stressful, but receiving this award was a proud moment. It may inspire others to realise their potential,” he said.

• Male Bus Driver of the Year: T.A. Mamphaga (Sekhukhune).
• Female Bus Driver of the Year: D. Rikhotso (Sekhukhune).
• LDV Bakkie Driver of the Year: E. Khuto (Sekhukhune).
• Rigid Truck Driver of the Year: A. Mashego (Sekhukhune).
• Female Taxi Driver of the Year: H. Ramonyai (Capricorn).
• Male Taxi Driver of the Year: E. Dikgale (Capricorn).
