LIMPOPO – Zanele Mashabane’s hit song Jerusalema kuni Makholwa was crowned Best Xitsonga Popular Song of the Year at the recent Mughana Lonene FM Xitsonga Music Awards.

The 19th annual ceremony was held at the Nkowankowa Stadium for the third consecutive year, despite rainy weather.

The prestigious event celebrated the best in Xitsonga music and featured electrifying performances by renowned artists like DJ Maphorisa, King Monada, and Henny C.

Winners included Mr Post: Best Male Artist; Nurse Matlala: Best Female Artist of the Year; Mbhanyele’s ‘Why’: Best Album of the Year; and Wayne and Tango: Best Xitsonga Duo/Group.

A highlight of the evening was a standout performance by Xitsonga music legend Dr Thomas Chauke, who captivated the audience with his extensive performance.

The awards marked the end of a three-year hosting agreement between Mughana Lonene FM and the Greater Tzaneen Municipality. The future location of the event remains uncertain.
