Tzaneen volunteer dedicated to road safety and community

Miyelani "Dolezar" Ramojela volunteers his time assisting learners and workers to navigate one of the region’s busiest roads.

TZANEEN – Miyelani Oscar Ramojela, known as Dolezar, has dedicated his life to helping residents of Mokgolobotho, Dan, and Dan Ext 2 safely cross the busy R36 road.

The 37-year-old, born and raised in Dan near Tzaneen, volunteers his time, particularly in the mornings, assisting learners and workers to navigate one of the region’s busiest roads.

His journey in aiding the community began in 2001 after witnessing a tragic accident on the R36. “After I saw a learner from Mokgolobotho get hit by a car, I decided to make a change,” he said.

Beyond road safety, Miyelani runs an annual back-to-school campaign, collecting donations through social media to assist underprivileged learners.

His initiative has attracted support from donors like Tela Ku Fuma Mathebula from Dan, who donated over 300 pairs of school shoes, and Sipho Sambo, who assists with registration fees for students whose NSFAS applications were not approved.

This year, he distributed nearly 100 pairs of school shoes to learners at N’wa Xindzele, and at Nkowankowa schools.

His commitment to the community extends beyond school support.

“I sometimes ride my bicycle to monitor learners on their way to school. If I see a child without a proper uniform, I give them one on the spot, as I always carry extra uniforms with me,” he explained.

Despite once receiving reflecting gear, securing the proper gear, including a reflector vest for safety, has been a challenge

“Some parents offer me money for helping their children, but I often advise them to give that R2 to a child who needs it more,” he shared.

Looking ahead, Miyelani dreams of establishing a shelter for needy families and a safe space where children can study and those without homes can find refuge. “I wish the government could step in and build a shelter and create a united community in our area,” he said.

Despite multiple visits to the Greater Tzaneen Municipality where he was promised a uniform, he has yet to receive one.
