Hoedspruit High welcomes new principal

Mellinda de Bruyn steps in as Hoedspruit High School principal, leading with passion, collaboration, and a vision to empower and inspire learners.

LIMPOPO – Mellinda de Bruyn has stepped into the role of principal at Hoedspruit High School (HHS), embracing the challenge of leading the institution with passion, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.

Appointed on March 1, De Bruyn is well-known for her unwavering dedication to the school community. Over the years, she has consistently gone above and beyond to inspire both learners and staff.

“My vision for the school is ‘Empowering Excellence, Inspiring Futures,” she stated.

Her leadership approach is rooted in core values that prioritise learner-centred decision-making and resource allocation, ensuring that every HHS learner receives the support they need to achieve their unique goals.

“We will strive for excellence in all aspects of school life, academically, extracurricular, and in teaching and leadership. Our school will be a haven of diversity, equity, and inclusion, where every learner, educator, and staff member feel valued, respected, and empowered,” she said.

De Bruyn emphasised the importance of collaboration within the school community. “By working together, sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources, we can achieve common goals,” she said.

“We will encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, preparing our learners to succeed in an ever-changing world and to become responsible global citizens.”

She also aims to enhance teaching and learning practices to boost learner achievement and outcomes. Fostering a positive school culture is among her top priorities, ensuring that respect, empathy, and kindness remain at the heart of daily interactions so that every learner feels safe, supported, and engaged.

Beyond the classroom, De Bruyn plans to strengthen partnerships with parents, local businesses, and organisations to further enrich the educational experience at HHS.

“I invite every learner, educator, staff member, and parent to join me on this exciting journey. Together, let’s create a school community that inspires, motivates, and empowers our learners to reach their full potential. It takes a village to raise a child, let’s build a brighter future, one learner at a time,” she concluded.
