WATCH: EFF marches to GTM offices

The EFF marched to hand over memorandums demanding improved service delivery and a response from the mayor within 14 days.

TZANEEN – The EFF held a protest march today from Tzaneen Crossing Caltex to the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) offices to deliver two memorandums of demand.

One memorandum was addressed to the Executive Mayor, while the other was directed to the Department of Correctional Services.

EFF representative Dumisani Manamela expressed disappointment that the mayor was not present to personally receive the memorandum, despite having been notified in advance of the visit.

“We wanted the mayor himself to receive this memo and listen to our cries about poor services delivery and unemployment,” said Councillor Manamela. He emphasised that all their demands were clearly outlined in both memorandums.

Community member Kenneth Dube added that the party had submitted a previous memorandum eight months ago and had yet to receive any response from the mayor.

“We don’t know if the mayor wants us to fight before we receive services delivery; now we are here to submit and ask why he did not respond to our last memo,” Dube stated.

Dube acknowledged that some services may not fall directly under the mayor’s control but stressed that it is the mayor’s responsibility to escalate community concerns to the relevant departments.

Manamela concluded by warning that the EFF is giving the mayor 14 days to respond. Failure to do so will result in a return visit to the municipal offices.
