Tzaneen manhunt after 3 prisoners escape police custody

Three suspects overpower on-duty officers and escape from police custody in Letsitele, SAPS seeks information from the public.

TZANEEN – Police in Letsitele, near Tzaneen, have launched an extensive manhunt following the escape of three awaiting-trial prisoners in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, June 24).

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the police spokesperson, says the escape occurred when the suspects, identified as Patrick Mbombi, Thabo Moye Makgopa, and Javas Mongwe, overpowered officers on duty and fled from police holding cells on foot.

“All three men are facing murder charges and are considered dangerous and possibly armed.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the whereabouts of the escapees to come forward.
