From wildfire to woodfire: A heartfelt thank-you to Magoebaskloof heroes

After the Magoebaskloof explosion, fire crews were treated to fresh pizzas nearly as warm as the blaze they battled.

TZANEEN – As the final embers of the Magoebaskloof fire were brought under control, a heart-warming gesture from a local restaurant brought smiles to the weary faces of firefighters still hard at work with recovery efforts.

The Pot n’ Plow delivered stacks of freshly baked pizzas to the remaining crews cleaning up after the blaze that erupted following the explosion along the R71.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours above Magoebaskloof Ruskamp, had swept through the mountain, sparking panic, road closures, and an extensive multi-agency emergency response.

The Letaba Fire Protection Association, who played a big role in containing it, shared photos on social media showing cheerful staff ready to deliver their pizzas.

“A big thank you to The Pot n’ Plow for providing tasty pizzas to the last of the fire fighters and emergency services who are mopping up and busy with the recovering processes from the Magoebaskloof fire,” read the post.

The fire, triggered by the explosion of a truck transporting gas cylinders, caused widespread damage across the area.

Emergency crews from Letaba FPA, the Tzaneen Fire Brigade, SARZA Limpopo, and other support teams worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire under dangerous and unpredictable conditions.

Thanks to their efforts and community cooperation, the fire was put out and the road was reopened later in the day.

As Magoebaskloof recovers, the solidarity between residents, emergency teams, and businesses remains a beacon of hope amid the ashes.
