LIMPOPO – Tzaneen-based Miami Canners has taken top honours at the prestigious South African Preserve Championships, hosted by Agri-Expo.
The company’s signature Boerie Relish Sweet Tomato™ was crowned Best in the Relish Category and South African champion in relishes, earning Miami Canners one of seven SA Champion Awards at this year’s event.
The awards ceremony was held at Manor Kitchen at the Lanzerac in Stellenbosch, where excellence in the country’s preserve industry was celebrated. This year’s competition featured an impressive range of entries from across South Africa, judged through strict blind tastings to ensure that only the finest in quality, flavour, and innovation received recognition.
The SA Preserve Championships not only honour outstanding products but also highlight the importance of preserved produce, encourage sustainable food practices, and provide valuable marketing opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Miami Canners said they were both humbled and delighted by the recognition.
“There are so many outstanding producers in South Africa, and the standard is incredibly high. To be recognised at this level is both humbling and encouraging,” said Mark and Yolande Pieterse, owners of Miami Canners.
They said the secret to the relish is that their products are made with love and passion, using the best ingredients, since 1984.
