Fauna Park Primary dominates district reading contest

Fauna Park Primary celebrates success as all seven learners win at district reading competition, with six advancing to provincials.

PHALABORWA – Fauna Park Primary School is celebrating after its learners excelled at the district reading competition held at Giyani Comprehensive School on Wednesday, August 27.

Seven learners from the school participated, and all of them walked away winners, with six claiming first positions and one securing second place.

The first six will now advance to represent the Mopani district at the provincial reading competition in Polokwane from September 17 to 19.

The victorious learners were awarded certificates, medals, and trophies for their outstanding performance in reading foundation phase storybooks.

The principal of the school, Florina Mamokgere, expressed pride in the learners’ success, calling it a reflection of the hard work and dedication within the school.

“I am over the moon about winning the competition. It shows that reading, teaching and learning is taking place at our school,” she said.

Mamokgere credited the school’s structured reading strategies for the achievement.

Reading is embedded into the daily timetable across all classes, while the school library ensures every learner has access to books at least once a week.

Foundation phase classrooms also have reading corners to cultivate a love for books from an early age.
