Phalaborwa hit-and-run claims life of child (5)

Mopani police are searching for answers after a child was fatally struck on Tshelang Gape road in Namakgale.

PHALABORWA – Police in the Mopani District are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a five-year-old girl from Nyakelane village was killed in a road incident on Sunday afternoon (September 7).

Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, says the incident happened along Tshelang Gape road leading to Makhushane Dairy.

When police arrived, they found the child lying motionless near the road. Paramedics later certified her dead on the scene.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the little girl was struck while attempting to cross the road. The vehicle was no longer at the scene when police arrived,” says Ledwaba.

However, community members who witnessed the event provided valuable information to the police, and the driver later handed himself over at the police station.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.
