Kruger Park evacuates Satara camp staff

KNP evacuates another site, this time, the Satara Camp after staff quarters go under in floodwaters.

Kruger National Park (KNP) was forced to evacuate personnel at Satara Camp on Friday morning, after the staff living quarters went under water.

SANParks spokesperson, JP Louw, said affected staff have been successfully evacuated, with no injuries reported.

Satara Rest Camp will be closed as water supply and electricity is disrupted.

On Thursday the park also evacuated staff and guests at Letaba Rest Camp.

“The northern regions of the KNP remain inaccessible due to flooding and road damage. All tourism activities, including guided game drives and bush walks, remain suspended. Many internal roads are saturated, damaged, or inaccessible, making it unsafe to conduct these activities at present.” JP said.

Guests exiting the park are urged to monitor updates on road conditions outside the park, as several provincial and regional routes are also affected by flooding.
