Health fears over sewage leaks in Phalaborwa

A senior resident has raised concerns over a month-long sewage leak in Phalaborwa that she says is affecting her health and home.

PHALABORWA – Residents of Kruger and Harris streets, are fed-up of stinky sewage flowing in their street.

A disgruntled resident who is a senior citizen, says she has been reporting the flowing and foul sewage to the municipality since April 1, with no response from the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality. The complainant says the massive sewage leak is in Harris Street and Gelderland substation.

Speaking to the Herald she says that the sewage started after the floods and has been running down the street without being fixed. The family who don’t want their details published says they are forced to keep their windows and doors closed all the time.

“The smell has started to affect my health, as I have a lung problem” she said.

The homeowner, says she just want the problem fixed and does not want any trouble with the municipality, but waiting for over a month without any response, forced her to reach out to the Herald.

“It can be heard gurgling on our side of the fence about 40m from our bedroom window. The smell is horrendous,” she added.

The Herald sent the enquiry to the municipality’s spokesperson, Jonas Mahesu who said he forwarded the enquiry to technical services to look into the matter.
