Lowveld Academy hosts Reunion exchange learners

Lowveld Academy hosted 25 learners and teachers from Reunion, a French island near Madagascar, for a week of academic and cultural exchange.

HOEDSPRUIT – Last week, Lowveld Academy (LA) hosted 25 learners and teachers from Maison Blanche High School in Reunion, a French island near Madagascar.

The visit aimed to provide the Reunion learners with an immersive experience of South Africa’s educational system, with a particular focus on mathematics and life sciences, as part of a collaborative community project.

Throughout the week, the visiting learners integrated seamlessly into daily school life, attending lessons and participating in a variety of social activities.

LA said their learners found the experience highly rewarding, noting it was a privilege to engage with peers.

Comparisons of the curricula revealed many similarities, with South African learners showing particular strength in mathematics, a testament to the international competitiveness of SA’s school system, LA said.

Beyond academics, the Reunion learners introduced their peers to native foods and beverages, sparking quick friendships and the exchange of contact information.

Their overall impression highlighted the warmth, kindness, and camaraderie experienced during their stay.

Looking ahead, both schools are eager to continue the relationship, with plans for ongoing comparative learning and the cultivation of lifelong friendships.
