3 learners killed in head-on Phalaborwa crash
Three teenage learners from Ntshuxeko High and Francolin College died in a head-on collision with a truck on the R71 in Phalaborwa.
PHALABORWA – A horrific head-on collision involving a truck and a sedan claimed the lives of three young men on the R71 next to Two Mountains in Phalaborwa on Saturday, April 18.
The incident occurred at around midnight.
Sedan crushed beyond recognition
According to information from the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, a truck was allegedly overtaking on a barrier line when it collided head-on with a sedan travelling in the opposite direction.
The impact of the crash was devastating, destroying the sedan and leaving it crushed beyond recognition.
The male driver of the sedan and two male passengers died at the scene.
Victims identified as local learners
The victims were identified as Thabang Mathebula, and Tshepo Kubayi, both learners from Ntshuxeko High School in Majeje. The third victim, Siyabonga Ndlovu, a Gr 11 learner, was from Francolin College in Mashishimale.
No injuries were reported from the truck.
The horrific condition of the wreckage has left many community members traumatised, with some describing it as one of the worst crashes seen in the area.
Reckless driving is suspected to be the possible cause of the fatal crash.
