Odas sworn in as member of GTM council

Former Mopani District Municipality spokesperson Odas Ngobeni has been appointed as a PR councillor at Greater Tzaneen Municipality.

TZANEEN – Odas Ngobeni was sworn in as a PR councillor of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) during a special council meeting on Friday morning.

Appointment follows councillor resignation

This follows the recent resignation of ANC PR councillor Tennyson Ngobeni.

Ngobeni will serve on the council’s finance, budget, and treasury committee. Ngobeni’s appointment was well received by council members, including Mayor Gerson Molapisane.

Former Mopani spokesperson

A Tzaneen resident, Ngobeni, previously served as head of communications and spokesperson for the Mopani District Municipality and resigned from that position shortly before the announcement.

Security tightened at council offices

As a precautionary measure, the GTM council offices in Agatha Street were closed by acting municipal manager Freedom Mthethwa until 14:00, with access restricted to councillors and municipal officials only.

Police and protesters were present in the street outside the building.

According to an eyewitness, the protesters were members of the ANC.
